Trent University rowing goes Movie industry with release of The Novice

"The Novice," winner of Best U.S. Narrative Feature Film award at its June 13 debut at the Tribeca Flic Fete in New York City, was filmed in Peterborough over two months in the fall of 2019.
Three Peterborough Row Club and Trent University rowing coaches — James Dyer, Richard Thomas Reid and Dan Steer — were part with of the film's technical crew and a number of local and university rowers were extras in the plastic film.
Trent River rower Sage-green Irvine was cast in a tongued character and is featured prominently in the movie and attained a moving picture credit.
"It's brilliant ... a great movie," said Dyer, who was invited to an exclusive screening of the move in Toronto on Tuesday with a number of the rowers WHO appeared equally extras.
The film, which has a restricted rating, is a dark psychological thriller which chronicles a college freshman's obsessive pursual of excellence, in the schoolroom and her pursuit of a smirch happening the rowing team, while also wrestling with her sexed identity leads to a mental crisis.

Trent University and the Otonabee River are featured prominently with The Red Detent Tap house, a Hunter Street West place where a house party was recorded and a former storage warehouse in Omemee are separate locations utilized for film scenes.

"The filming years had day and Night scenes so the filming days were often 18 and 20 hours long. Peterborough Row Club President Brian Love said it was an exciting metre when the picture crew was on place and he hopes anyone involved volition discove it.
"I am told it's a well-behaved film. I wasn't competent to endure to the premiere unfortunately only I am anxious to be able to see it," Love said.
